Joy of Life Doulas is committed to helping women and families in their most vulnerable moments while empowering them to make educated decisions about the birthing process.

Our Beginning

After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Family Studies from Miami University, I had a hard time choosing a career path. I am interested in and have a passion for many, many things and people. I felt like there were so many people in the world who needed help. I felt overwhelmed. I went back to my pharmacy job and felt unfulfilled.

Birth was, and will always be, the most commonplace of miracles - an event at once familiar and phenomenal, timeless and immediate, briefly making angels of us all.

I remembered a conversation I had with my mom about what a birth doula was and what they did. I learned a little bit more about it and with the support of my amazing husband and awesome family, I completed a DONA International training to be a birth doula, am working towards certification, and I started my own company. Being a birth doula encompasses many of my passions and interests. I am looking forward to the future!

A doula is...

"a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. (DONA, 2018).

Countless scientific trials examining doula care demonstrate remarkably improved physical and psychological outcomes for both mother and baby. Doulas have a positive impact on the well-being of the entire family.
